2K Games has welcomed Ben Brinkman from the creators of Apex Legends to oversee the development team at 31st Union, which is currently crafting the upcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as this innovative game.
Management Shift Follows Lukewarm Feedback
Brinkman steps into the leadership position at the development studio following the departure of former leader the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was removed from his post due to the game's underwhelming unveiling last fall.
Recently, the company's top executive a key figure notified team members about this strategic move through an official communication, which highlighted that early feedback sessions had indicated the requirement for a more defined direction.
The president stated that the developers is now reimagining the project with a refreshed vision, aiming to satisfy gamer demands.
Trend of Key Recruitment
This announcement mirrors a similar action taken by the publisher in the summer, when they recruited an industry veteran from Blizzard to work on the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.

Team—
I know you all just completed your town hall - I trust you’re as excited as I am with the positive developments. Previously I shared you all a message, I expressed the following: “I believe in this group. You all are some of the most dedicated and talented designers we have had the opportunity to partner with - and we’re looking forward for that collaboration to persist.”
Given your hard work and flexibility, especially over the past twelve months, you consistently demonstrate that.
The community feedback from last autumn’s Project ETHOS testing phase was revealing. It validated the appeal of a action-packed game but told us we still had work to do. It highlighted the need for a more distinct identity.
It has been motivating to see how far you’ve advanced. You embraced the feedback to heart and overhauled the title with a renewed vision - one that’s positioned to deliver on its ambition to our fans.
The belief in this project grows every day. To further the incredible progress you’ve made, It is a pleasure to welcome Ben Brinkman as the new Director of the team. After some time of discussions, Ben starts with us on Monday, October 20.
Ben’s management and background in the competitive gaming space is vast, having spent the recent years developing and managing some of the most well-known series in gaming, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops, and lately, Apex Legends.
Please join me in greeting him soon. We are all eager to keep observing the development of Project ETHOS in the months to come.
The President
Background of the New Head
The appointee presently serves in the role of executive producer and production lead at Respawn Entertainment for Apex Legends. Brinkman previously worked at Treyarch and Activision in diverse development positions on the iconic franchise games, and, prior to that, had periods at 2K and Electronic Arts.
Title Information and Concept
Project Ethos was unveiled in last year in conjunction with a community playtest. Then, the developers presented the title as a "no-cost, third-person perspective roguelike hero shooter and an exciting evolution on the style."
"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Build your hero in real-time to match your preferred approach," the game's pitch explains. "Face the competition with new abilities, risks, and tests that shift every round. Do you withdraw carefully with your collected items? Alternatively aim high, risk it all, and trust your team can secure victory? The option is yours."
The game lacks an official debut schedule or platforms, but players can look forward to additional details as production progresses.
