Approximately 50 cars have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Cars, exterior walls and postboxes were marked, in some cases with swastikas, they stated in a official communication.
Law enforcement report they were alerted late on Wednesday evening, when a individual noticed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored liquid.
The substance had been placed in the pattern of a banned symbol, they reported.
Officers then located many other marked vehicles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement state early analysis indicate the fluid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no clue as to where it came from; authorities are presently not cognizant of any harm in relation with the occurrence," they stated.
City officials said they were working "to unravel the mystery" and have asked to the community for details.
A senior political figure said the vandalism rendered him speechless and required to be addressed rapidly.
"This event affects the core of Hanau and reopens the pain of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he posted on online, referring to the murder of nine individuals by a shooter targeting people of migrant background in February 2020.
